A text from my papa reads, "Nakapunta ka na ba ng boracay?", "Have you been to boracay?" After replying "No", next thing I know was that I am going to Boracay with my sister and her friends. I was elated but eventually got bombed out. Was I asked to go there and baby sit my sister? If so, how am I going to enjoy bora? When questions like these come, it's best left ignored because, seriously, you'll never know what will happen unless you're already there. So I saved myself from anxiety, and packed my bag light.
For the very first day, it became obvious to me that my sister isn't a baby anymore and is into teenager activities, that I myself, during my teenager years haven't done much of. I forgot she's 18. What was I thinking? She's into night parties with techno music blasting out of the speaker while I into chilling along the beach, reading listening to waves crashing unto the shore; she's into beers while I, fruit shakes, she's into chinito boys, while I'm into dark complexioned men, preferably in speedos (I'm seriously joking about the speedos). With this huge contrast of likes, it made sense to just enjoy bora separately.
So what I thought would be a group trip turned out to be, yet again, a solo trip.

Here is a series of stories I've gathered as I experienced Boracay in 8 days. This is not your typical "what happens in bora, stays in bora" story. No. And this could potentially bore you but I'm sure you would want to know how an introvert, like me, could enjoy the party paradise like Bora.
Out of all the experiences though, like any introvert, the best one I had was spent alone. It was the time when I was chilling along the beach, watching the sun as it plays a kaleidoscope of orange hues on the horizon, feeling the breeze from the sea and the cool sand that I was sitting on. All that while listening to a reggae band blasting few meters away from where I was seated. People there were chilling with their friends enjoying their beer and the band. I was just there enjoying everything the moment is giving me. Best part is, it's all free, and totally freeing. |
